The Institute for Linguistic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ILS RAS) is one of the largest linguistic research institutions in Russia, well-known for its researches in theory of grammar, language typology, Indo-European studies and areal linguistics, languages of the peoples of Russia, and for its lexicographical works. The Lexicographical sector of the ILS includes about 50 researchers, compiling historical and modern Russian language dictionaries, as well as a dictionary of minor languages of Siberia and the Russian North. The most important ongoing lexicographical projects are the Big Academic Dictionary of the Russian language, the Dictionary of the Russian language of the 18th century, the Dictionary of Russian Dialects, New Words and Meanings series. Some of the dictionaries are represented on the website and freely available.
