The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences University of Zagreb (FFZG) is the largest higher education institution in Croatia which carries out research activities and executes university programs in the field of humanities and social sciences. It is also a significant cultural institution with a great impact on Croatian culture and society. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is part of the University of Zagreb, the oldest university in Croatia and one of the oldest universities in Europe. All activities of the FFZG enhance the development of personality and promote human rights and fundamental freedoms. FFZG is organized trough departments and chairs and offers more than 100 study programs, realized either as single or double majors. Since 2005/2006 Faculty offers programs  in accordance with the Bologna process (42 BA and 33 MA programs). It also offers 18 doctoral study programs and 2 professional postgraduate study programs.

Research activities conducted at the Faculty have been very successful and have resulted in a striking number of new scientific and research projects, an enormous number of scientific papers published in a variety of publications, international and national journals as well, and included in global databases, but also in special editions of books of proceedings, publications, books, textbooks and handbooks. The Faculty is especially proud of its lexicographic activities carried out within the departments of Linguistics, Phonetics, Croatian language and literature but also other languages and literatures (English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Swedish, Classic Philology (Greek and Latin), Turkish, Indology, East, West and South Slavic languages) and Information and Communication Sciences. In the past 10 years, the lexicographic activities have been managed via more than 30 different national and international Projects.
