Inside the Dictionary Matrix – ELEXIS and the multilingual dictionaries of the future
The Austrian Academy of Sciences, namely ELEXIS project partner ACDH, is present at the European Researchers’ Night in Vienna on 27 September 2019, showcasing ELEXIS: the development of a multilingual, digital lexicographic infrastructure, seeking to use computational means to link up lexicographic resources like dictionaries and make them usable in entirely new ways.
The ELEXIS Dictionary Matrix is still under development, but at ERN 2019, visitors of all ages can gain insight into how it is created and at the same time try their hand at the craft of lexicography: Who can connect a word in a (more or less familiar) language with its counterparts in other languages and help to expand the (analogue) multilingual dictionary?
From 2018-2019, 55 projects have been implemented in 371 cities across Europe and beyond. During the 2018 Night, over 1.5 million visitors attended!
